Roman - we loved you well

This is my first pup, Roman. He had a number of medical problems over the years, including pemphigus, an autoimmune disease related to lupus, and laryngeal paralysis, which is what took him from us in the summer of 2001.

Roman was the best patient you could ask for - he seemed to understand why they took blood samples, and why I had to clean his scabs so often. He was an old soul, and everyone who met him just fell in love with him.

We still miss you, Zomes...

This is my favorite picture of Roman as a puppy. He's trying so hard to be a good boy, but he looks so skeptical of the whole thing.

The spring before the pemphigus showed up. Those redtones in his coat are natural. Roman had the thickest, softest undercoat, even in late spring, that I've ever seen on a dog.
